Somali Gangs Busted for Trafficking
Twenty-nine people have been indicted for an alleged sex-trafficking ring in which Somali gangs forced girls under age 14 into prostitution in Minnesota, Tennessee, and Ohio. The indictment, unsealed Monday, claims that three Somali gangs in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area—the Somali Outlaws, the Somali Mafia, and the Lady Outlaws—forced several young Somali or African-American girls into prostitution so the defendants could get money. http://tinyurl.com/46wsmtrOne should not expect a victim of rape to have to single-handedly identify, trace, catch, arrest, prosecute, convict and punish the person who raped her. Targets of bullying often find themselves doing all of these while those in positions of authority persistently abdicate and deny responsibility
Bullies may have started in the halls of schools, but unchecked can result in pimps and human traffickers. They bully women and children into slavery. They abuse, misuse and even kill there victims. BBC Panorama specially made a questionnaire aimed at young people aged 11–19 years in schools and youth clubs across five regions of England. The study revealed that of the 273 young people who responded to the questionnaire, 28 had been forced to do something sexual and 31 had seen it happen to someone else. Baltimore, MD is reported to be part of Human Trafficking Problem, police said back in 2009. In Baltimore, there are people who are willing to pay big bucks to have sex with children. (It) fuels the market for this really abhorrent practice - Md. Human Trafficking Task Force. The Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force was formed in 2007. Byron Thompson, a/k/a “B,” age 25, of Reisterstown, MD, pleaded guilty in 2009 to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor and three counts of sex trafficking of a minor. Thompson and his co-conspirator drove the minors to a Maryland truck stop and directed them to walk the area to solicit sex clients. Phylicia Barnes sister lives in Reisterstown, and was on her way to the Reisterstown mall.
Reisterstown is census-designated place in Baltimore County, Maryland. It is located to the northwest of Baltimore. Interstate 795 (I-795), also known as the Northwest Expressway, is a freeway linking Baltimore's northwestern suburbs of Pikesville, Owings Mills and Reisterstown, Maryland to the Baltimore Beltway (Interstate 695).
Not far from Reisterstown in Baltimore, June 2010 Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force stated that Derwin Smith, 42 took 12-year-old girl as a prostitute, and supporting documents allege he threatened her. He took the girl to a section of Washington, DC known for prostitution, as well as to Atlantic City, N.J.
Several major interstate highways run through the county, including I-95, I-83, I-195, I-795 and I-70 making escape and travel easy. Traffickers could travel Interstate-95, as an example, from Florida to Maine. It is the main highway on the East Coast of the United States, paralleling the Atlantic Ocean serving some of the most populated urban areas in the country.
Facts from the DoSomething.org approximately 80% of trafficking involves sexual exploitation, and 19% involves labor exploitation. Between 2001 and 2005, 140 defendants have been convicted of human trafficking in the U.S. which is a 109% increase from 1996-2000.
