Donald Trump Is Threatening To Sue Over #DumpTrump For 25 Million Dollars

Dear Claire,

Donald Trump is trying to shut us down!

Trump’s lawyers sent me a cease and desist letter threatening a 25 million dollar lawsuit if I continued with our campaign urging Macy’s to dump Donald Trump. But, I won't succumb to Trump's bullying and attempt to shut us down. I am pressing on and I hope you will press on too.

Read more about the legal threat at The Hollywood Reporterhttp://goo.gl/ylUAd
When we last left off, there were already signs that your efforts were having an effect. This is why Trump is trying to stop us. AdWeek reported that Macy's popularity plummeted for "failing to dump the Trump collection." [1] Tens of thousands of customers told Macy's they will stop shopping there. And, thanks to your support, we ran #DumpTrump mobile billboards around Macy's Herald Square and Macy's Ohio Headquarters during the days leading up to Christmas. [2]

lawsuit
By threatening me, Trump is only reinforcing the point that we've been trying to get Macy's to recognize: that Trump's brand is bigoted bullying and chicanery. And, it shouldn't be rewarded.

So, now it's time to let Macy's know that they can't remain silent and continue to defend Donald Trump.

Here are some ways you can help:

  • Post a message on Macy's Facebook pageLet them know that you don't appreciate their continued support of Donald Trump's bigoted bullying. Ask them if they support Trump's attempt to intimidate and silence customers. Urge them to make it clear that Trump doesn't speak for Macy's and to finally #DumpTrump. You can find Macy's page here:http://facebook.com/macys
It took a few weeks (hence the delay in sending an update), but fortunately, I was able to secure pro bono legal representation. Paul Alan Levy, an attorney at the nonprofit consumer organizationPublic Citizen, has agreed to represent me. I am grateful.

As soon as I went public with the news, Trump's lawyer told reporters that I was a "loser;" Donald Trump called me "dummy" and "stupid." But, as much as Trump is trying to make this about him, this effort is really about Macy's and their decision to continue supporting Donald Trump. Thus far, Macy's has been silent. This is surprising given that they came out and defended Trump's freedom of speech last fall. It's also surprising because Trump's counsel claimed that Macy's is supportive of Trump's legal action. Trump doesn't have credibility, so I don't put too much stock in the claim, but I really hope Macy's isn't encouraging these kinds of threats against their own customers.

We can't allow Donald Trump to shut us down, especially when we've already come so far.

In the coming weeks, I will send another update with additional organizing and action opportunities.

Thanks so much for your participation. It matters.

Onward!

Best,
Angelo

Macy's Asks For A Boycott

By DonkeyHotey

Dear Claire,

You might be thinking to yourself: Really? Macy's actually asked to be boycotted?!  Well, yes. Pretty much.

Before Thanksgiving, dozens of Macy’s cardholders joined me at Macy’s Herald Square store in New York City to deliver our petition signed by more than 660,000 people.  The event culminated with Macy's cardholders cutting up their Macy’s cards. They were sending the message that if Macy's was going to stand by Donald Trump, then consumers would start dumping Macy’s. I'm grateful to everyone who joined me for the petition delivery and was encouraged by all the passersby who joined the event after learning what it was about.

You can read about and see pictures from the delivery here: http://huff.to/UlytVM

A week after we delivered the petition, Macy's Chief Marketing Officer told an audience at a business conference that Macy's is sticking with Donald Trump because that's what Macy's customers want.
The Macy's executive dismissed the Dump Trump Effort, saying: "We try to separate from that and we try to let the customer vote on that…As long as that customer is still voting by wanting to buy that product, then that’s what it’s all about."
A few days later, new data was released, which revealed that Macy's popularity is plummeting due to their relationship with Donald Trump. Prior to the Dump Trump Effort, Macy's recommend score among US women was a 31. A recommend score reflects how likely customers are to recommend the store; it's a very important indicator in the retail industry. And, a score of 31 is quite good. However, Macy's recommend score has since fallen to 17 - that's a 14 point drop in just a few weeks and it now puts Macy's 2 points below average for the retail industry. You can read about Macy's plummeting popularity over at AdWeek: http://bit.ly/UcBQxQ

This is not a good sign for Macy's and it's an indication that their customers are deeply disappointed and defecting. Although, it's not surprising given that Macy's refuses to take seriously the concerns expressed by so many of their customers. I guess we should listen to what Macy's Chief Marketing Officer said about customers voting with what they buy.So, now's the time to let Macy's know that you're going to do just that - that you plan on dumping Macy's because they refuse to dump Trump.
Here are just a few ways you can help ramp up the pressure on Macy's:
  • Keep on spreading the word! Discourage your friends and family from shopping at Macy's due to their support of Donald Trump's bigoted bullying. (If they're unpersuadable, at least make sure they don't purchase any of Trump's products.)
  • Cancel your Macy's credit card. Be sure to let them know that you're canceling because of Macy's support of Donald Trump.
Next week, I'll share the next big steps in the Dump Trump Effort along with a website that you'll be able to go to for timely and regular updates (and so that I won't have to keep sending you these emails).
Thanks so much for your participation. Your efforts are having an effect. Now, we just need some persistence.

Onward!
Best,

Angelo

Here's a sample message to send to your friends:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,

Macy's has a special deal with Donald Trump. They invest in developing Trump's brand and sell his clothing line and fragrance at their locations. To this end, they have had major events at Macy's Herald Square location and they often feature and promote Trump in advertisements designed to celebrate the magic of Macy's.

Recently, Macy's CEO Terry Lundgren sent Donald Trump a letter touting how excited Macy's was to be working with Trump and promising to expand Trump's brand even further than it already is.

But, why is Macy's celebrating Trump?

Donald Trump engages in especially unpleasant, nasty and despicable behavior. He has:

- Long engaged in sexist behavior. Trump has a long record of personally attacking women he disagrees by calling them "unattractive," ugly or fat. He once sent a target a personal note telling her that she has the "face of a dog." Not even his own daughter is immune to Trump's sexism. While referring to his daughter , Trump observed: "She does have a very nice figure...if [she] weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her."

- Hypocritically complained about jobs being shipped overseas to China, despite the fact that almost his entire clothing line sold at Macy's is made in China and other Asian nations.

- Use his public platform to deny the reality of climate change. Following Hurricane Sandy, Trump publicly declared: "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."

- Perpetuated the racially charged birther conspiracy, repeatedly arguing that President Obama has been lying and was not born in the United States.

The list goes on. But the point remains, Macy's should dump Trump.

Macy's boasts about its social responsibility policy, which reads: "There is no shortage of talk about the obligation of public companies to be socially responsible to the people and communities where they do business. At Macy’s, Inc., we hold those same beliefs – along with a belief that actions speak louder than words when it comes to helping tackle some of the toughest problems facing us today."

Indeed Macy's. Actions speak louder than words. So, act and dump Trump.

That's why I signed a petition to Terry J. Lundgren, Chairman of the Board, CEO and President at Macy's Inc., which says:

"Macy's: Donald Trump does not reflect the "magic of Macy's." We urge you to sever ties with him. Macy's says it has a strong obligation to be "socially responsible" and that "actions speak louder than words." Indeed. It's time to act."

Will you sign the petition too? Click here to add your name:

Trumps Breaking News

The Breaking News for 10-24-2012

Donald Trump
Breaking News: From an unreliable source unknown to Trump, Donald Trump is about to announce that Mitt Romney will draw from the 2012 presidential race. Sources far away from the presidential hopeful, thought to be Big Bird yet unconfirmed, leaked the latest plans for the Republican candidate. Romney selected Trump to make the announcement because they both speak the same language, “You’re fired!”
  • "I like being able to fire people who provide services to me." –Mitt Romney, using an unfortunate choice of words while advocating for consumer choice in health insurance plans (January 2012)
  • "As president, I will create 12 million new jobs." —Mitt Romney, during the second presidential debate "Government does not create jobs. Government does not create jobs." —Mitt Romney, 45 minutes later (Oct. 16, 2012)
OK! So how is Mitt going to create jobs as president, but government does not create jobs? Is not the president part of government? He has until 2016 to figure that out. Well Romney is often confused,
Will the Real Presidential Candidate Please Stand Up
  • "I'm Mitt Romney—and yes Wolf, that's also my first name." —Mitt Romney, getting his own name wrong (his first name is "Willard," and his middle name is "Mitt")
  • "Join me in welcoming the next president of the United States, Paul Ryan." –Mitt Romney, committing a gaffe while introducing his running mate, Norfolk, Va., Aug. 11, 2012
Earlier this week, Trump tried to get the media excited about the news. As usual, Trump was very dramatic in an attempt to get intelligent people interested.

The Polls

Polls of non-existent voters influenced the Romney camp to drop the bid for this year’s election, and try for 2016. “No point in keep spinning our wheels on a hopeless endeavor, a big yellow guy was quoted as saying. “There are so many Republicans coming out of the woodwork for the 2016 elections.”

Romney's Cabinet & Leadership - 2016

Mitt Romney
Of course this is unconfirmed, but Trump is to hint at the possible Romney cabinet and leadership speculated for 2016 race. One maybe surprised by some of the people and positions discussed.
· Presidential candidate - Willard Mitt Romney "I'm not familiar precisely with what I said, but I'll stand by what I said, whatever it was." —Mitt Romney (May 17, 2012)
· Vice – presidential candidate - Rush Hudson Limbaugh III Yes this is one of the surprises. His qualifications are the ability to talk a lot. Put him on the campaign trail and he’ll insult voters equally.

Limbaugh Mug Shot 2006
  • “Let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do — let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work.” - Rush Limbaugh, radio show, Fall 1993
  • “What is it with all of these young, single white women? Overeducated- doesn’t mean intelligent.” ~Rush Limbaugh, insulting educated women, March 6, 2012
  • “When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult; it’s an invitation.” - Rush Limbaugh, making a “joke” about homosexual men, Summer 1994
· Secretary of State – Sarah Palin - “But obviously, we've got to stand with our North Korean allies." --Sarah Palin, after being asked how she would handle the current hostilities between the two Koreas, interview on Glenn Beck's radio show, Nov. 24, 2010
  • "He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed." --Sarah Palin, botching the history of Paul Revere's midnight ride, June 3, 2011
  • Sarah Palin
  • "All of 'em, any of 'em that have been in front of me over all these years." --Sarah Palin, unable to name a single newspaper or magazine she reads, interview with Katie Couric, CBS News, Oct. 1, 2008 (Watch video clip)
· Secretary of Labor – Donald Trump He will put forth Romney’s thoughts. Trump’s job and missions is to fire everyone with a city, state or federal job. Trump will also be responsible for the binder filled with women’s names.
“He [Obama] says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It's time for us to cut back on government and help the American people." —Mitt Romney at a campaign event in Council Bluffs, Iowa, June 8, 2012
· Chief of Staff – Michael Steele "Could you help a brother out? No more national conventions with 36 people of color in the room." - Steele, urging Florida Republicans to send delegates to the Republican National Convention who "look like Florida."
Michael Steele
Could be a conversation with Trump - “If you don't want me in the job, fire me. But until then, shut up. Get with the program or get out of the way." - Steele, saying he's "done" with criticism from top Republicans.
· Secretary of Health - Missouri Republican Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin, who opposes abortion in most cases, including rape, said in a television interview that it is “really rare” that victims of “legitimate rape” get pregnant or perhaps Senate candidate Richard Mourdock of Indiana is the latest office seeker to rankle when discussing rape, pregnancy and abortion.

· Ambassador to the United Nations – Ann Romney "We use Ann sparingly right now so that people don't get tired of her." –Mitt Romney, referring to his wife while speaking to a room of wealthy donors in Florida, May 17, 2012
